These are the records that help goods cross borders, including Certificates of Analysis (COAs), Certificates of Conformance (COCs), Certificates of Origin, laboratory reports, and transportation records that provide evidence of what a shipment is, where it came from, and whether it meets applicable requirements.

The $25 trillion trust problem
Trade documents often need to remain verifiable long after the systems that created them have changed or disappeared. A certificate issued today could be required a decade later during a customs, tax, EUDR, CBAM, or other regulatory review. Buyers, customs authorities, auditors, manufacturers, and logistics providers also rarely operate on the same technology infrastructure, making independent verification and interoperability increasingly important.
Much of the industry still runs on paper, with around 4 billion paper documents circulating through the $25 trillion cargo trade at any one time. Paper is also among the easiest things to falsify. Of the fraud cases behind the $4.7 trillion the ACFE estimates organizations lose each year, 33% involved alteration of physical documents, followed closely by alteration of digital documents (28%).

Walrus and its access-control architecture can protect sensitive content while preserving the ability to independently verify the integrity of the underlying authenticated record.
